This page contains content for Frozen Soul (Dream Game) .
The game focuses on a person's relation to the indefinitely massive space of the unknown. It's about what's outside the known world, a realm where the person senses and guesses more than they see, everything that, for them, appears vague, mysterious and unattainable. It is an open system of multiple and unknown influences to which the person is subjected to, which determine them, and which will have to gradually be known.
— Game Thematic Explanation

Frozen Soul (full name: Frozen Soul: The Magician's Lying Eight), also known as Dream Game, is an exploration game heavily inspired by the Myst series, Yume Nikki, ARGs and old adventure games. The game explores themes surrounding the unknown. It is currently a work in progress with much still needed to be done. The game is developed by VerticalAscent with a series of other contributors who have helped through the years.

Overview

The player takes control of Nashatra Bealdhild starting on Windy Island, who can go to sleep (and wake up) inside The 12th House and wander through several unique dreams of differing imagery and entities within the Dreamsphere, a parallel dimension from the Waking World (where Windy Island is situated) with uniquely complex lore. Each dream has a different environment and subsequently different interactions with differing results. As the player progresses, they will obtain various items which will allow for even more possible interactions in the environment, and Badges, collectibles and quests that mark their progress throughout the game's core progression through its story (in most cases.) There are also commands that the player can perform to push the story forward, and different types of Events that add variety to the experience.

Currently, the player may visit 6 surface dreams, 9 known depth dreams, 4 known abyssal dreams and 3 known bonus dreams. The player may also visit 6 known memory worlds as well, 6 virtual worlds and 2 dungeon sub-places too.

The game's themes are based on philosophical, esoteric and hermetic concepts which might be troubling understanding the game at first, and that is okay. It is your choice if you want to continue with your study of this game and struggle through playing it or to stop playing.

There is a total of 5 known endings to the game (2 obtainable) (3 WIP).

Your ROBLOX Account must be 32 days old in order for you to play the game in public servers. If your account is less than 32 days old, the game will only allow you to play in your or your friend's private server.

Gameplay

Upon joining a server (or session, as the game likes to call it), you will be spawned into The 12th House on Windy Island onto a red team known as Sleepwalker with two stats: Studs Travelled and Reposes. Reposes are obtained from completing one full sleep cycle in the Waking World (a trip to the Dreamsphere and back) and while Studs are obtained from every movement you take, stopping its count when you move way too fast. Both are used as currencies for things around the Dreamsphere, but only Reposes persist between sessions. Purple and red gifts known as Repose Gifts may fall out of the sky occasionally during long sessions within a dream and give a bundle of Reposes. You may trade this currency with the Stud Bag and :donate command respectively.

Also, within the leaderboard, location names will be displayed on the leaderboard above the Sleepwalker team, varying in color in accordance with the colors of the dream/area as [PLACE NAME]. Your team name, "Sleepwalkers," will change depending on how many players are in the server. If there is one person in the server, the team name will say "Sleepwalker." If there are no players in the server, The team color will change to black and say "Void." Occasionally, a 3rd team named Muses will appear just under the Sleepwalker team.

Frozen Soul's core UI.

There are 3 bars you will see on the side of your screen when you join the game along with a few items. The Mood meter is the leftmost one, with the blue arrow, while the Appetite and Health bar succeeds it. When you are at low HP, your character will begin to emit mechanical noises, with it speeding the pitch up the lower your HP is. When you fill your appetite meter through consumption of foods, your health will pulsate blue for a little while with an audible click noise to indicate the effect and a blue text can be seen above the bar saying "Regenerating..." in which you will regenerate HP quickly (~20-30HP per 3-5 seconds). In this state, you can instantly consume any food to prolong the effect.

A dream counter can be seen on the bottom left of the screen when on Windy Island or after penalty rebirthing. It will count the total number of dreams the server has had during its runtime. Rarely, the counter may change to "Dreams in this rotten state of Denmark" before the dreams as a small easter egg to Shakespeare's Hamlet.

Attempting to use the "Reset Character" option in the Roblox menu of the game at any time will prompt Nash to say, "This is not the time." This text will appear differently in certain memory worlds.

In public servers or in servers with more than 1 person, there usually is a voting system players can vote to the sleep or not. There is a chance for when the vote ends to play an extra clip of the announcer saying "THIS IS SENSATIONAL!!!!!!"

The moon in both the Waking World and Dreamsphere have different moon phases, with the celestial bodies in the Dreamsphere being notably different from the Waking World's; being reversed in time positions and appearing as Cherubim and Ophanims respectively. There is a chance the Ophanim Sun will be replaced with the Josafárian Signature. Both suns in areas may emit a strange moving red glare with words. This is known as the "Mystic Lens" and holds the same text as the Ring Bar in-game: "To sleep again, to rest upon my head as in my own country, common smoke dissolving its trees against a sky turned into the same skies of old..."

Your backpack's tool positions save (provided you have them permanently) with the color of it being customizable at 1337 Pets. Floor 5 of Dying Mall offers a way to customize your explosion color by using the slushie scoops. Your item colors may also be customized at Dying Mall (Roller Skates) and Graveyard Sea (Silver Net and The Sword of Bunker Hill).

When you net physical things with the Wooden Net or above, it will be sent to the Net Dimension, which is a dimension that can be seen to the far left of the 12th House's direction (where the window is) in the far distance. This dimension is subject to be expanded upon in the future, but for now it will house all players' netted physical items, which each player having their own unique net to match their current Net tier.

Like the game description notes, the public servers of the game weren't meant for serious play and just serves as a chaotic experience; with certain interactions and abyssals being disabled there. Here is a small list of what you can't do:

  • Can't use the Three Ponds
  • Can't collect Treasures
  • Cannot activate Abyssals (besides Windstorm Valley)

Trivia

  • Frozen Soul's full title is "Frozen Soul: The Magician's Lying Eight", which is mentioned in :info command. The name itself has deeper meanings that could be considered as a spoiler for the game.
    • "Frozen Soul" could be referring to Nashatra's perturbed mental state throughout the game, and "The Magician's Lying Eight" is referring to the infinity symbol atop The Magician tarot card.
      • Also mentioned in the :info command is the title "Go to Sleep and Have a Dream or a Nightmare 2", humorously referencing a rather old game on RŌBLOX.
    • The old name of the game, Dream Game, is how August and TheFishToucher named their experimental projects as a gag on simple naming schemes.
      • The current name, "Frozen Soul," was meant to be the true and definitive name of the project, though the "Dream Game" name stuck for a while until April 2nd, 2025, where the Epic Department community Discord voted on the name being changed officially to Frozen Soul finally, with Dream Game being a secondary name of the project.
    • The name itself might be derived from an Ace Combat 3 soundtrack of the same name.
  • The project was originally started in 2015 and lasted a few months before August dropped it and moved to Unity for a few projects. It didn't get re-started until 2020, where TheFishToucher talked August onto coming back onto Roblox.
    • You can find and play a 2020 build of the game here
  • Occasionally while playing, you may hear rare ambience like "Dream On," This is a reference to Jacob's Ladder.
  • Much of the RNG in Frozen Soul involves the number 7 in it.
  • You originally weren't able to take Dreamsphere items into the Waking World, but this was later removed in an update to accommodate lore changes (where Nash was more capable enough to take items to and from the Dreamsphere because of the Rose Seekers' training) and to make gameplay less annoying.
    • You also were only able to spawn with only the items obtained from From the bottom of one's heart and/or the items obtained from Each day better than the last. This was also changed to include all quest obtainable and other permanent badge items due to its annoyance rather than a punishment.
  • The text you see throughout various textures of the Dreamsphere games (Mystic Lens, Delete Hammer StunCircle Shockwave, Big Bunny stomp, Forge Water ripple) are based on the episodes of Castle 3, where hidden text was found throughout episodes in ordinary spots.
  • A scrapped memory world, Fausten, is now in sun moon & star, to these i bid adieu due to August disliking the memory world that much... (geez...)
  • Imprisonment used to be a sub-place present in this game before it was removed some time ago. Its purpose was to house exploiters who exploited the game, though it was retired since exploiters found a way out of prison.
  • There is a removed castle dream known as Selenic Falls, but it was removed due to controversy. For the purposes of the wiki and by August's wishes, we will not add a page about the dream to the wiki due to this reason.
  • Currently, there is an ongoing text-based saga gag in the Developer Console about two opposing forces: The Hii and Hey guys people.
